Our Active Ministries: Building the Kingdom Through Service and Solidarity

At Liberties Temple, our faith is not a passive belief but an active, living force. We are the hands and feet of Christ in the world, and our work is organized into distinct ministries that serve our community and advance the cause of liberation. Each ministry is a direct response to the sins of this world and a practical step toward manifesting the Kingdom of God on earth. These are the current, active ministries through which we live out our commitment to Christian Communism.

The Comrades' Breadbasket (Food Ministry)

Guided by the command to feed the hungry (Matthew 25:35) and the example of the early church who shared their food so that none were in need (Acts 2:46), this ministry is the frontline of our war against scarcity. We believe food is a right, not a commodity.

  • What we do: We collect, organize, and distribute food to any and all who are in need. This operates through a community pantry and regular mobile distributions to neighborhoods hardest hit by food deserts and economic inequality.

  • How we do it: We operate on a model of mutual aid. Food is sourced through community donations, solidarity partnerships with local farmers, and organized food reclamation efforts. There are no prerequisites, no forms to fill out, and no judgment. We share what we have because what belongs to one belongs to all.

The People's Wardrobe (Clothing Ministry)

In a system that exploits labor and then sells the products of that labor back to us at an exorbitant price, providing clothing is an act of rebellion. This ministry answers the biblical call to clothe the naked (Isaiah 58:7) and restore dignity to our comrades.

  • What we do: We provide free, quality clothing, shoes, and essential outerwear to individuals and families. We ensure that children have warm coats for the winter, and that everyone has the basic clothing needed to live with dignity.

  • How we do it: Our "Wardrobe" is a free store run by volunteers. All items are donated by the community, cleaned, and organized with respect. We create a dignified shopping experience where individuals can choose what they need, affirming their agency and humanity.

The Comrades Unit (Community Defense Ministry)

The path of liberation is always met with resistance from the powers that be. As we challenge the foundations of an unjust system, we and those we serve can become targets of harassment, intimidation, and violence from those who wish to maintain the status quo. This ministry exists as the shield of our community. We take seriously the biblical principle of defending the innocent and the oppressed, and we understand that while we are called to be peacemakers, we must also be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16), prepared to protect our flock from the wolves that prowl in the darkness.

What we do: The Comrades Unit is our community defense and resilience team. We provide safety and security for all temple functions, including our food and clothing distributions, protests, and worship services. We are trained to identify and deter threats from hostile forces who seek to disrupt our sacred work or bring harm to our congregation and the vulnerable people we serve. We are the watchmen on the walls, standing guard so that the Kingdom can be built in peace.

How we do it: Our members are trained in a comprehensive system of community protection, from situational awareness and non-violent de-escalation to organized tactical defense. We believe in resolving conflict peacefully whenever possible, but we also understand that true peace requires the strength to defend it. We are prepared to use necessary force to protect the lives of our congregation and the vulnerable people we serve. We are the shepherds who will not abandon the sheep to the wolves (John 10:11-13). We operate on principles of collective security, understanding that the safety of one is the safety of all, and that a strong defense is the only guarantee of our freedom to serve God and our community.

The Elder Comrades' Circle (Senior Care Ministry)

We have a sacred duty to honor and protect our elders, who are the repositories of wisdom and the foundation of our communities. This ministry is our response to the cruel and heartless attacks on Medicare and Medicaid, which are nothing more than attempts to sacrifice the vulnerable on the altar of profit.

  • What we do: We provide comprehensive, holistic support to our senior comrades who are being abandoned by a failing state. This ministry is a living expression of the command to honor your father and mother (Exodus 20:12).

  • How we do it: Our work is hands-on and deeply personal. We organize teams to:

    • Purchase and deliver groceries and essential household items, ensuring no elder goes hungry.

    • Secure and deliver life-saving medicine, filling the gaps left by gutted social programs.

    • Provide companionship, visiting our elders in their homes, fighting back against the isolation that capitalism inflicts, and sharing in fellowship and prayer.

    • Offer a powerful ministry of prayer, lifting up their specific needs, health concerns, and spiritual well-being before God, knowing that our struggle is both material and spiritual.

The Hammer & Sickle (Repair & Construction Ministry)

In a system designed to make us dependent on capitalist technicians for our very survival, the ability to maintain our own homes, vehicles, and tools is a revolutionary act. This ministry answers the call to be builders of the Kingdom (1 Corinthians 3:10) and to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2). We reject the commodification of basic skills and reclaim the means of production and maintenance for the people.

What we do: We provide free, skilled labor in mechanics, plumbing, electrical work, and general construction. We fix broken furnaces in winter, repair cars so comrades can get to work, and build community infrastructure. We ensure that no family is forced into homelessness or debt because they cannot afford to pay a capitalist for a necessary repair.

How we do it: Our ministry is a collective of skilled workers who volunteer their time and expertise. We operate on a model of mutual aid, where the community provides materials when possible, and we provide the labor freely. There are no invoices, no service fees, and no profit. We work together because a house divided by market forces cannot stand, but a community united in shared labor can build a new world. We are the living fulfillment of the scripture: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might" (Ecclesiastes 9:10), for the glory of the collective, not the profit of the individual.

Choir of Resistance (Church Choir)

The ruling class uses culture to dull our minds and pacify our spirit. Our music is the antidote. This ministry is the voice of our revolution, the sound of the coming Kingdom. We are called to make a joyful noise unto the Lord (Psalm 100:1), but our joy is the joy of struggle, and our noise shatters the silence of oppression. We take seriously the command to sing a new song (Psalm 96:1)—a song of liberation for the working class.

What we do: We compose and perform revolutionary hymns, spirituals of resistance, and anthems of solidarity that articulate the theology of Christian Communism. Our music is not for entertainment; it is for education, agitation, and inspiration. It is the soundtrack to our struggle and the battle cry of our faith.

How we do it: The choir is a cadre of revolutionary artists. Our lyrics are drawn directly from scripture and the writings of liberation theologians, set to powerful, moving melodies that stir the heart and strengthen the will. We perform at all temple functions, at protests and rallies, and we record our music to spread our message beyond these walls. We are the trumpeters who bring down the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:20), using the power of song to demolish the ideological fortresses of capitalism and clear the way for the Kingdom of God.

These ministries are not separate programs; they are interconnected parts of a single body, working in concert to build a world based on love, justice, and solidarity. This is our praxis. This is how we worship. This is how we build the Kingdom.
